From the Press

"For most listeners, 'Storyville Stompers: Feel So Good' ...will epitomize a great deal of what New Orleans jazz is all about. But though its exuberant, second-line music represents the New Orleans parade-music tradition at its best, the Storyville Stompers are much more than a retro band cashing in on an easily accessible genre. Rather, they produce an ensemble sound that is richer and arrangements that are more intricately conceived and carefully voiced than one typically encounters in this most extroverted form of New Orleans jazz-roots music."
Howard Reich, Arts Critic, Chicago Tribune, (CD review)

"This is New Orleans music today, second line music. Music that combines jazz, gospel, blues, r&b and funk with a nod to the past and a wink to the future. This music celebrates life as it is defined by the citizens of the amazing city. ...These guys deserve their place in the history of the New Orleans brass band revival of the '70's and 80's....Just listen to the music; it speaks for itself."
Jerry Brock, Louisiana Music Factory, (from CD liner notes)

"...functions as an all-purpose jazz band...well-practiced players...reflects the recently discovered relish in the venerable brass band tradition...played in a purer pre-Dixieland style."
Vincent Fumar, Times-Picayune, (review of 1989 recording "Stompin")

Thank you so much for the wonderful job you did for my Mother's Jazz Funeral. You helped me honor her last wish. She was a true "New Orleans Lady". Although a difficult time, we paid her the most wonderful tribute I could have imagined. It was just what she would have wanted, and a true celebration of her life. I just received your CD, and will treasure it as a special remembrance of my mother. Thank you ever so much.

Getting to "revel" with these magicians of music throughout the year with parades , shows, & the big Mardi Gras Day, is truly a great personal joy to me.This group never fails to have the sound & spirit that elevates a function to the true height of "Laissez le bon ton roulez' " !

This is a brass band that takes pride in carrying on the tradition of the old style. the new brass bands could learn something about the heritage of the music from these well seasoned musicians. Mr. danny barker liked this band.

The stompers are fantastic. they swing like the old guys, play their hearts out and party hard.

We are in over 50 parades and mock jazz funerals a year and have worked with almost all of the local brass bands. The Storyville Stompers are by far the best and most professional brass band we have worled with! We highly recommend them.
